Done Deal: Manchester United Complete the Signing of Viktor Gyökeres
Manchester United have officially completed the signing of Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP in what is set to be one of the club’s most significant moves of the summer transfer window. The 26-year-old arrives at Old Trafford after an outstanding season in Portugal, where he netted 29 goals and provided 10 assists in the Primeira Liga, firmly establishing himself as one of Europe’s most in-form forwards.
The deal, reportedly worth around €70 million including add-ons, signals United’s intent to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new campaign. Gyökeres will provide much-needed support and competition for Rasmus Højlund, easing the burden on the young Dane while adding experience and physical presence to Erik ten Hag’s frontline.
Known for his relentless work rate, intelligent movement, and clinical finishing, Gyökeres is expected to seamlessly fit into Ten Hag’s high-intensity system. His ability to press from the front, link up play, and exploit space behind defenses makes him an ideal addition to United’s evolving tactical approach.
The Swedish international began his career at Brommapojkarna before making a name for himself at Coventry City in the Championship, earning a move to Sporting in 2023. His rapid development since then has been nothing short of remarkable.
Speaking after the signing, Gyökeres expressed his excitement: “Joining Manchester United is a dream come true. I’m ready to give everything for this badge and help the team achieve great things.”
With this acquisition, Manchester United address one of their key weaknesses from last season: a lack of consistent goal-scoring threats. If Gyökeres can replicate his form from Portugal, the Red Devils may have found the missing piece in their pursuit of silverware.
