Guns N’ Roses Mumbai show, Goa Heritage Festival & other events across India to bookmark this month.

This May, Guns ‘N Roses is returning to India after 13 long years. The legendary American hard rock band comprising original members Axl Rose (vocalist), Slash (lead guitarist), and Duff McKagan (bassist), along with Dizzy Reed (keyboardist), Richard Fortus (rhythm guitarist), Frank Ferrer (drummer) and Melissa Reese (keyboardist), took to Instagram back in March to announce: “We’re comin’ to India! This is going to be special”. Famed for their chart-busting tracks like November Rain, Sweet Child O’ Mine, Paradise City, and Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door, the rock and roll legends are revving up to delight the country’s children of rock on May 17 at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Race Course.

Global EDM sensation Mahmut Orhan is all set to make his India debut at Mumbai this month. The Turkish DJ and producer, known for his chart-busting tracks like Feel, Save Me and 6 Days, is gearing up for his one-night-only spectacle at Mumbai’s Dome, SVP Stadium for an exclusive set featuring his signature sound — a blend of deep house, cinematic layers and Eastern melodies.

There are many who call Sudhir Patwardhan a documentarian of his (inhabited) city. The 76-year old’s creative vision stems from his hyper-focused observance of people, especially the working classes labouring through the buzzing metropolis of Mumbai. Social justice features as a predominant theme in the veteran artist’s oeuvre, courtesy a collection of empathetic encounters from his time at Pune’s Armed Forces Medical College, and later, a career in radiology. In Cities:Built, Broken, which displays over 75 of the Indian contemporary painter’s recent works, including large and small canvases and drawings across various scales, Patwardhan dives deeper into the juxtaposition that defines the Maximum city — of capitalist consumption eroding natural spaces, and the daily lives of its inhabitants. The exhibition is currently on at Kolkata’s buzzy TRI Art and Culture till June 15.
