Oklahoma basketball signs ‘extremely versatile’ Alabama transfer Derrion Reid

The Sooners announced Thursday that they have signed Reid, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward who spent his freshman season with the Crimson Tide. Reid is officially the fourth transfer addition Oklahoma has signed this offseason, joining forward Tae Davis.

 

We’re so happy to have Derrion as a member of our program,” Oklahoma coach Porter Moser said in a release announcing the signing. “He’s a high-level player we’ve been following for years and who we recruited in high school. He’s long, athletic and skilled, and because of those traits is extremely versatile. He can play above the rim, he can score from outside, he can defend multiple positions and he’s a highly effective rebounder.

 

“He has firsthand experience in the SEC, which is invaluable, and he’s just going to keep getting better and better. He’s going to help us tremendously.”

Reid, who was rated as the No. 10 overall player in the 2024 class coming out of Prolific Prep, comes to Oklahoma with three years of eligibility remaining. As a freshman at Alabama last season, he appeared in 24 games and averaged six points and 2.8 rebounds per game in just 14 minutes per outing. He scored in double figures six times, including a career-high 12 against Creighton in nonconference play, as well as an 11-point, seven-board effort against UNC.

He missed 13 games due to a hamstring injury that also limited him at times throughout the season, including late in the year when he returned to the floor for Alabama during the SEC and NCAA Tournaments. When healthy,
