Dave Mustaine Officially Announces One Final Reunion of Classic Megadeth Lineup
In a move that has stunned and thrilled the heavy metal world, Dave Mustaine has officially announced a long-anticipated reunion of the classic Megadeth lineup for one final tour.
Speaking via a live stream from his home studio in Nashville, Mustaine confirmed that he, along with former bandmates David Ellefson (bass), Marty Friedman (guitar), and Nick Menza’s son Nicholas Menza (drums), will hit the road in late 2025 for what he described as a “celebration of the legacy that defined an era.”
“This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time,” Mustaine said. “After everything we’ve been through personal differences, the ups and downs of life I think the time is right to honor what we created together. It’s for the fans, and it’s for the music that changed our lives.”
The tour, titled “The Final Countdown: Peace Sells But Who’s Reuniting?”, will feature performances of entire albums from Megadeth’s golden age, including Rust in Peace, Countdown to Extinction, and Youthanasia.
Though original drummer Nick Menza tragically passed away in 2016, Mustaine said that including Nicholas Menza Nick’s son and a talented drummer in his own right “brings a full-circle energy to this reunion.”
David Ellefson, whose departure from Megadeth in 2021 was highly publicized, expressed optimism in a brief statement: “The past is the past. This is about respect, redemption, and reconnecting with the fans.”
Marty Friedman, who has enjoyed a successful solo career in Japan, will return for all dates of the tour. He rejoined Mustaine briefly on stage in 2023, sparking rumors that the two had buried the hatchet. Those rumors now appear true.
Tickets for the tour will go on sale next month, and Mustaine hinted that this may also coincide with a deluxe box set release containing unreleased demos, live recordings, and a documentary chronicling the reunion journey.
Whether you’re a lifelong fan or new to Megadeth’s ferocious blend of thrash and melody, this final reunion promises to be an unforgettable chapter in the band’s legacy.
