ATHENS, GA – The Georgia Bulldogs community is mourning the loss of legendary coach Ray Goff, who passed away today at the age of 69. Goff, known for his infectious enthusiasm and dedication to the program, led the Bulldogs for six seasons from 1991 to 1996, leaving an enduring legacy on the team and the SEC.

 

Goff’s coaching career began at his alma mater, the University of Georgia, where he served as an assistant under Vince Dooley. He ascended to the head coaching position in 1991, taking over a program that had experienced a period of decline. Goff’s arrival brought a renewed sense of optimism and a commitment to building a strong foundation for the future.

 

During his tenure, Goff guided the Bulldogs to three bowl appearances, including a victory in the 1993 Peach Bowl. He also oversaw the development of several future NFL stars, including Garrison Hearst and Eric Zeier.

 

Beyond his coaching achievements, Goff was deeply respected for his character and integrity. He was a beloved figure within the Georgia football family, known for his unwavering commitment to his players and his genuine passion for the game.
