The Kentucky Wildcats family is in mourning today, as former star and NBA champion Tayshaun Prince has passed away at the age of 41 after a battle with cancer. Prince, a beloved figure in the Bluegrass State, left an indelible mark on the program during his time in Lexington, leading the Wildcats to the 1998 NCAA Championship.

 

“Tayshaun was a true Wildcat, on and off the court,” said Kentucky coach John Calipari. “He was a champion, a leader, and a friend to all. His impact on our program will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

 

Prince, a 2000 NBA Draft pick, enjoyed a stellar 14-year professional career, earning a championship ring with the Detroit Pistons in 2004. He was known for his tenacious defense, clutch play, and unwavering commitment to the game. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of fans and teammates alike, but his legacy as a Kentucky legend will live on forever.
