ATHENS, GA — Former University of Georgia football head coach Jim Donnan has passed away at the age of 79, following a battle with illness, his family confirmed on Sunday. Donnan, who led the Bulldogs from 1996 to 2000, was remembered as a passionate leader and influential figure in college football.

 

During his five-season tenure at Georgia, Donnan compiled a 40-19 record and guided the team to four consecutive bowl victories. His leadership helped pave the way for the program’s continued success in the years that followed. Prior to Georgia, he was head coach at Marshall University, where he won the 1992 Division I-AA National Championship and established himself as one of the nation’s top coaching talents.

 

Donnan was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2009, honoring his contributions to the sport both on and off the field. Tributes have poured in from former players, colleagues, and fans who praised his mentorship and dedication to developing young athletes.
