Man sentenced in connection with Lance Armstrong bike, storage unit theft
AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was sentenced to community supervision in connection with a 2023 theft of famous cyclist Lance Armstrong’s storage unit in Austin.
Shaun Thompson, 37, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years of community supervision in August, according to court documents. He was charged with theft of property between $30,000 and $150,000.
An arrest affidavit said the stolen bikes were valued at over $100,000.
Armstrong, who is a former Austin resident, won seven Tour de France titles from 1999-2005. Those titles were stripped in 2012 after he admitted to doping while racing. He was diagnosed with stage 3 testicular cancer in 1996 and was considered one of the best cyclists in the world at the time of the diagnosis.
Thompson was one of two suspects arrested in connection with the thefts. The second suspect has their next court date scheduled for Sept. 24.
